BestBuyGadgett buying guides: how to use them

Our buying guides are written to help you choose the right electronics without wading through jargon. Each guide explains what a feature does, who it matters to and what to check on a product page before you order. They are general advice, so always confirm the details on the listing you are considering.

BestBuyGadgett buying guides for laptops, monitors, gaming and storage

Laptop and PC buying guides

Start with how to choose a laptop if you are unsure where to begin, then read about RAM for gaming laptops and gaming laptop overheating. For storage, SSD versus HDD explains speed, capacity and cost. You can compare options in our computers and tablets department.

Monitor and TV buying guides

Our gaming monitor buying guide covers resolution, panel type and size, while 144Hz versus 240Hz explains refresh rate. Panel guides include OLED versus QLED and QD-OLED versus WOLED, and monitor not detected helps when a display will not connect. Browse monitors and TVs and home theater when you are ready.

PlayStation and gaming guides

Planning a console purchase? Read about PS5 bundles, PS5 accessories, PS5 storage upgrades and PS5 versus Xbox Series X. The PlayStation website has official console information, and our gaming department lists what is available now.

How to read a spec sheet

Compare the processor, memory, storage, display and ports first, then check the condition on the listing: items are brand-new unless the listing says refurbished. If two products look similar, the model number is the most reliable way to compare them. For questions about a specific product, contact our team.

Where to go next

Once you have decided what you need, visit the shop to see every department, or read how shipping and returns work in our Shipping Policy and Return Policy. We add new buying guides over time, so check back here for the latest.

Understanding the main specs

Processor: the chip that does the work. Newer, higher-tier chips handle heavy tasks such as video editing and modern games more smoothly. Memory (RAM): the short-term workspace for open programs. More memory helps when you run many apps at once. Storage: an SSD loads programs and files much faster than a hard drive, while a hard drive usually offers more space for the same cost.

Display: resolution describes how sharp a picture is (1080p, 1440p and 4K are common), refresh rate in hertz describes how smoothly motion looks, and the panel type affects color, contrast and viewing angles. Ports matter too: check that a device has the connections you need, such as USB-C, HDMI or DisplayPort, before you order.

Matching a device to how you will use it

For study and office work, prioritise battery life, a comfortable keyboard and a reliable screen. For gaming, look at the graphics card, a high refresh rate display and good cooling. For creative work, look for plenty of memory, fast storage and an accurate display. Our guides explain each of these trade-offs, and the product pages show the exact specification of every item.

Condition, shipping and returns

Every listing states whether an item is brand-new or refurbished. Standard shipping is free on orders over $250, with a flat $9.99 fee below that, and sealed items can be returned within 30 days. Customs duties or import taxes may apply to international parcels.
