Monitor Refresh Rate: Is 144Hz, 240Hz or 360Hz Worth It?
Refresh rate is how many times per second a monitor redraws the image. A higher number gives smoother motion, but only if your system can produce enough frames.
60Hz vs 144Hz
Moving from 60Hz to 144Hz is the most noticeable jump for most players. Motion looks smoother and aiming feels more responsive.
144Hz vs 240Hz and above
The gains from 240Hz and 360Hz are smaller and matter most in fast competitive shooters. They are real but subtle for casual play.
Your graphics card sets the limit
A 240Hz monitor only looks 240Hz if your PC renders around 240 frames per second. At high resolutions such as 4K, that demands a powerful GPU, so a 144Hz to 165Hz 4K panel can be the better match.
Resolution and panel type
Balance refresh rate against resolution. QHD at a high refresh rate is a popular middle ground. OLED and QD-OLED panels add very fast response times and strong contrast.
Adaptive sync and cables
Use G-Sync or FreeSync to avoid tearing, and use a cable rated for the mode, such as DisplayPort or HDMI 2.1, so the monitor can reach its full refresh rate.
